Bovada Poker´s annual tournament series will take place between 1st and 31st March, with an extra $108,000 guaranteed special event scheduled for this Sunday.
U.S.-based fans of valuable online poker tournaments have not been starved of opportunities recently due to the Winning Poker Network´s OSS Cub3d series. However, at the start of March, OSS Cub3d enters its “Bigger” high rollers leg – pricing many players out of the action. Fortunately, an alternative exists in the form of Bovada Poker´s Black Diamond Poker Open series (BDPO) which gets underway on Friday 1st March and runs through until Sunday 31st March.
Although the eighth edition of BDPO does not feature so many valuable tournaments as the Winning Poker Network´s equivalent, players will have the opportunity to compete in more than 130 events throughout March at Bovada Poker (review); which, between them, will see more than $4 million on the tables. Furthermore, players looking for an early piece of Black Diamond action have a special warm up event to look forward to this coming Sunday offering a $108,000 prize pool (GTD).
BDPO Schedule Released Next Monday
The actual BDPO schedule will not be common knowledge until next week, but what we know so far is that the series will include the regular mix of Hold´em and Omaha tournaments with a wide range of buy-ins. In addition to a Main Event with a prize pool guarantee of $300,000 on Sunday 31st March, the site will be hosting an $88,000 Mini Main Event two hours earlier. The regular Sunday $100K tournaments are also having their guarantees increased throughout the series.
As usual, the series will be supported by a comprehensive satellite schedule consisting of satellites, sub-satellites, and Sit & Go qualifiers – with a two-stage Sit & Go Steps program launching next week that feeds into the BDPO Main Event. There will also be the popular “Cheap Seats” sub-satellites running around the clock, with buy-ins starting at $1.00 to give players of all bankroll levels the opportunity to qualify for a big event.

Black Diamond Special Event this Sunday
Ahead of the schedule being released, Bovada Poker has scheduled a BDPO warm up event on Sunday (24th February) in place of the regular $100K tournament. The event will start eight minutes later than usual at 4:08pm (all times ET), and will be guaranteed for $108,000 – the frequent references to the number eight throughout the series representing the eighth time Bovada Poker has run a Black Diamond Poker Open series.
The tournament will have the regular buy-in of $162, but when players sit down at the table, they will find an extra 2,000 chips in their stacks (12,000 instead of the usual 10,000 chips). Although the tournament structure will be no different from the regular Sunday $100K tournament, late registration is being extended by a couple of levels to mid-way through Level 17. However, players leaving it until the last minute to enter will find their chip stacks are only worth the equivalent of six Big Blinds.
BDPO Special Supported by a Host of Satellites
Players looking to maximize the value from this Sunday´s tournament should head to the Bovada Poker tournament lobby and use the filter to find the satellites for the BDPO event. Direct satellites run throughout the day with buy-ins ranging from $7.70 to $22.00. There will also be some cheaper sub satellites available with buy-ins of $1.00 that feed into a $17.00 satellite for the main event. These are already proving to be popular, so visit Bovada Poker today before the satellite lobby gets too congested.

These satellite tournaments will help you to win tickets to the BDPO events starting at $2.20.- Ignition Casino Black Diamond Poker Open Games: It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the BDPO puts a lot of emphasis on the most common form of online poker: No Limit Texas Hold’em. But don’t worry if you’re a fan of other kinds of poker, because there will also likely be your favorite poker game. The structure of the tournament includes deep-stack, shootouts, turbos, hypers and knockouts, just to name a few. But you’ll be disappointed if you were hoping for rebuys and add-on events, something that is common for a huge series like this one. It could be because the buyers are pretty high anyway and so it wouldn’t make sense to make visitors pay over and over.
- Ignition Casino Black Diamond Poker Open Schedule: Because there are so many tournaments running, just 140, the poker network decided to jam many of the events per day for this BDPO. On the weekday, you can find 4 tournaments that happen in the evening Eastern Time, and on the weekend, at least 6, mostly in the afternoon. Chances are, you and your poker friends probably have other things to do and won’t be able to attend each and every game during the BDPO. One of the best aspects of Ignition Casino Black Diamond Poker Open products is the anonymous tables. Players don’t have to use their name, not even a nickname or screen name. Just “player 1, 2, 3”, etc. This way, newbie players can be protected from the sharks out there. So far, this idea has been working out really well if one looks at the quality of the games on the site. The occasional player doesn’t affect the multi-table tournaments as much since they can’t select their opponents, but for serious stuff BDPO games, there will be many amateurs of cash games who will be tempted to join the multi-table tournaments because of the big guaranteed prize, making this anonymous tables idea useful for maintaining soft games.
